From being bullied in school by mean boys, Povaneswari Shanmugam has blossomed into a model ... and not just any model.
She swept top honours at the Ford Models Supermodel Of The World Singapore 2011 pageant on Saturday night with her stunning presence on the catwalk.
Just a few years ago, the Chinese-Indian beauty, better known as Povane (pronounced pu-va-na), was crying herself to sleep every night because of her unconventional, exotic looks. Povane, 19, told The New Paper: "When I was studying at the Singapore Sports School, the boys used to verbally abuse me and call me names like 'scrap', as in scrap metal."
